East Rand Nomads have fun while helping NPOs
R23 000 was donated to Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services (CYCS) Gauteng and The Matthew 25 Project.
While golden oldies blared from the speakers, bowlers sashayed across the lawns to take part in the East Rand Nomads’s annual President’s Day, on March 17.
With polished bowls, members from clubs as far afield as Vereeniging, braved the heat at Benoni Central Bowling Club, engaging in friendly banter all in the spirit of raising funds for Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services (CYCS) Gauteng as well as The Matthew 25 Project.
“This is the first time that this event is hosted here,” said president Hennie Coetzer.
“Participants from across the district have again come out in droves not only to enjoy a friendly game but to make a tangible contribution to organisations that go above and beyond to assist the most vulnerable members of the community.”
Coetzer said that as Nomads, their membership is about more than just the game, it is about heart.
“Bowls, the skills involved in playing the game and the fellowship that exists between players, has for many been a refuge,” he said.
“The game has become a welcome diversion from life’s daily challenges and for many is an outlet.
“Pairing that with a deep-seated passion for helping those in need has created a harmonious balance between self-care and caring for others.”
Following successful rounds of matches those in attendance raised their glasses in celebration of a successful day.
Before announcing the day’s winners, representatives of the benefitting charities were called to the stage to receive their donations.
Coetzer took the time to thank not only those who participated in the day but also its sponsors, who largely contributed to the day’s success.
“It is heart-warming to see that business as well as the sporting community continues to invest in NPOs and their ongoing work,” he said.
