New coach for Owls

Stephen Els is the new head coach of the Boksburg Rugby Club.

The new head coach of the Boksburg Rugby Club, Stephen Els, is committed to revitalising the club’s spirit.
Els took over the reins from Joff Jacobs and Reg Muller, now part of a rugby academy in George, at the start of the 2024 season and brings a wealth of experience to the Owls’ side.

Els’ rugby journey began at High School Oosterland, where the foundation was laid for a lifelong passion for the sport.

He represented various clubs, including Sasol 1st, Harlequins, PTA and Pretoria Polisie.

Els also competed in the esteemed Valke Currie Cup practice squad and the amateur ranks.

When he transitioned into coaching, he guided teams like Kempton Wolwe U21 to league victories and Boksburg U21 to consecutive finals.

At the provincial level, Els coached Valke age-group teams, from the U19s to the U21s. He also served on the Valke elite coaching panel and steered the Valke Sevens team from 2003 to 2011, during which we achieved remarkable success.

“With a dedicated team of players and coaches, we aim to make our mark in the Valke Peregrine League and honour the rich tradition of Boksburg Rugby Club,” said Els.
