Boksburg FC scoops league title

Most of the team's players will be moving to higher divisional teams.

The Boksburg FC U15 team won the Eastern League with 54 points and 102 goals.

This team won the Eastern Cup competition as well. They played the final Eastern Cup match on September 17 and the final league match on September 24.

Heinrich Loxton, the coach of Boksburg FC said besides their guidance as coaches, the players displayed hunger, commitment, dedication and discipline to win both trophies.

“We, as coaching staff, are over the moon with the players’ performance. It was not an easy road because all the premier league teams were competitive and on top of their games.

“The other difficult part we overcame is that both the league and cup were taking place at the same period,” he explained.

Loxton added the players had to prepare mentally because during the week they would play a league game and on the weekend, a cup match.

“The U15 premier league had stiff competition because there was no outright winning team.

“The interesting part is that during the last periods of the league, we were competing with one of the Boksburg-based teams for the title. Both teams finished on equal points, but our goals in the league were more than the ones of Blackball, that made us winners,” he shared.

He said he had no best words to describe the feelings of the players but could say they were ‘very happy’.

“At the beginning of the season, we asked the boys about their expectations and they answered they wanted to win the league and they achieved their goal.

“The Eastern Cup was as difficult as the league,” he expressed.

He added in the finals of the Cup game; they played against The Football Institution FC, the team they beat to win the league.

“The match ended 4-4 on extra time, but we beat the team in the penalty shootouts,” he concluded.
