Blackball United 13 team wins the Eastern league with only two matches to play

The players are excited to win the league.

The Blackball United U13 team is on cruise control winning the Eastern league with two matches remaining.

The chairperson and head coach of Blackball United, Muzi Masuku, said it’s a great feeling knowing that they have won the U13 Eastern league before it ends.

“We feel like we have achieved a milestone knowing that our coaches have been committed to showing up, week in and out, even in extreme weather conditions to polish the diamonds we have.

“To achieve this milestone, we needed to have a determined coaching staff and players, not just in games, but in training sessions as well. We trained four times on a weekly basis,” said Masuku.

He mentioned that the majority of the players that make up the U13 team are last year’s U12 players of Blackball, some of whom have been with the club since its inception in 2017.

“It was important for us to win the league to know that the structure we are building is working. It’s not by chance that we have achieved these results, the effort of the team has been good. The players are excited and proud of themselves,” he added.

He said that the most important factor is that 80% of the boys are still 12 years old and that has earned them a chance to test their skills for the Kaizer Chiefs U13 development side in the hope of being absorbed into the famous club.

“Blackball United is willing and ready to lose them to a better and bigger organisation like Chiefs. This would not be the first time we have done so.”

He added that the U13 team sits on 48 points, with eight points clear of their nearest rival.

“Last year the U13 side won the league as well, this means that the younger generation of Blackball United players had to defend their title and they definitely did.”
