“We played 20 games to clinch it, and I have to say, there were times when I thought we would not make it,” said Chipitura.

The team played home and away matches to win 15 games, draw three and lose two.

The league became a three-horse race at the end, with Samba Boys, Corner House and Nigel FC vying to be league champs.

The BCFA league had 11 teams play 20 games, with every team fighting to make it to the top of the log.

The league started last November and stretched until this July because of cancellations and delays by the local leagues.

The club owners said they were happy the team won because it was their first BCFA league in 10 years since they formed. That they celebrated their 10th anniversary made the victory the cherry on top.

Samba Boys FC was formed in 2013 by two brothers, Clive and Sydney Chipitura, in Rieger Park, and they are part of the Boksburg Football Association.

Because of their passion for the sport, they motivated young boys to be disciplined, not roam the streets, not abuse drugs and not commit crimes.

“Currently, we are preparing for the playoffs because we will compete with the rest of the Ekurhuleni region at the SAFA playoffs to gain promotion,” said Chipitura.

The club consists of U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and senior players. The coach said they were also the Easter Tournament close runner-up this year and had a good season.

Hammond Pole Attorneys sponsored 30 jackets for the team and motivated them to win the league to receive the jackets, and indeed, the team won.

The company believes the community needed upliftment, and sport was a powerful tool to unite and create joy in challenging times.
