Police officer nets himself a win

Out of about 60 teams, the two locals had the heaviest bag of carp.

Warrant Officer Charlie Faber of the Boksburg North SAPS impressed at The Afrikaanse Protestantse Kerk’s recent fishing competition at Ashton Lake, where he caught the heaviest carp.

Faber said anybody could enter the competition, and there were two anglers per team. There were 120 anglers in total.

Besides catching the biggest fish, about 3kg, the heaviest bag of carp also belonged to Faber and his teammate, Greg Latten, from Atlasville.

For catching the heaviest carp, Faber won R1 000. The team won R3 000 for the heaviest bag of carp.

“I’m over the moon about the outcome of the competition. It was amazing catching the biggest carp and being on the winning team. It was a cold day, and there was not a lot of fish,” Faber explained.
