Grade Nine learner represents SA in karate

St Dominic's learner travels to Zimbabwe and Croatia.

Kelsy Stevenson(15), from St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls, has been selected to represent South Africa in the Africa Karate Federation (UKAF) Region South Championships in Zimbabwe from June 8 to 11.

The Grade Nine learner will also represent the country in the Karate One Youth League tournament in Croatia from June 29 to July 2.

Kelsy earned her national colours after her incredible performances when she won a gold medal in kumite and two silvers in kata during the Arnold Classic Africa fitness competition at Ruimsig Stadium last month.

Stevenson does not only shine in karate but also in her school work. She is in the top ten achievers for grade nine.

Her mother Tracy is so happy and proud that her daughter is following her dreams.

“I always knew she was special and for her to be doing academically well and follow her dreams at the same time is tremendous,” she said.
