Jarvis wins Rookie of the Year award

He will spend the next seven months touring the European circuit.

A year after walking onto the greens as a professional golfer, Freeway Park’s Casey Jarvis (19) received the Rookie of the Year award at the final leg of the Sunshine Tour at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate, Kempton Park, on April 23.

Teeing off with Jaco Ahlers on the final day of the Tour Championship, the State Mines Country Club member secured his number two position with 13 under par.

Followed by droves of spectators, Jarvis remained focused yet cool under pressure.

He maintained a humbled poise throughout the tournament, despite making waves the previous week at the Stella Artois Players Championships, at Dainfern Country Club.

Jarvis ended off the third day equaling the Sunshine Tour record by hitting 59, the lowest for the tournament.

This was last achieved in 2009, by Peter Karmis in the Lombard Insurance Classic, on the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Course, in eSwatini.

Finishing off the season, Jarvis attained five top 10 finishes, four second places and ranked seventh overall on the tour order of merit.

But there was little time for celebration. Casey jetted off to Dubai shortly after the conclusion of the tournament.

He will spend the next seven months touring the European circuit during which he hopes to qualify for the Tour to PGA.

While signing autographs for his young and endearing fans, Jarvis said that he is looking forward to a wealth of possibilities.

“None of this could have been possible without the support of my parents, family and friends,” he said.

“I hope to maintain this momentum by just doing the best I can.”
