New president for Boksburg Cardinals
He was happy to be chosen as the new president of the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club.
Gavin Watkins, the new president of the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, is determined to take the club to greater heights.
“I became the club president when our president resigned last November. Before this, I was senior chairperson, so I understand all the dynamics of the club.
“As a committee member, I always focused on what was best for the club, not climbing the ranks.”
Watkins has been a Boksburg sportsman since the age of four.
“I played for the Cardinals when I was eight, and after I played for the U12 at the club, I left baseball to focus on soccer. I returned to baseball nine years ago when I joined the Cardinals as a management member.
“As management, we focus more on bringing the best out of players. Now we are preparing for the upcoming NBC tournament, which will take place at the Boksburg Stadium from April 1 to 11.
“Baseball teams from all over South Africa will be participating, which is exciting for us as a club. Our main priority as a committee is to improve the Cardinals baseball and softball clubs. While doing so, we also get an opportunity to enjoy the sport we love,” he said.
