Blackball United teams flying high

The teams aim to retain their titles in the upcoming ELFA League.

The Blackball United U10 and U13 teams that won the Easterns Local Football Association League stunned other teams when they also won the ELFA Cup Games on October 2.

The tournament comprised 12 teams in each division and all its matches were played at Bedfordview Country Club.

Chairperson of Blackball United and coach of the U13 team Muzi Masuku said they won the recent tournament and the ELFA league because the team has hardworking players and coaches.

“Our technical team puts in the work, it is supported by the parents of the players. I think that’s our formula when it comes to winning for me personally as chairperson of the club. We are all united in the team.

“We also train three days a week and this wouldn’t have been possible if the parents of our players didn’t allow us to train with their children all that time. I think our team is developing, but we just need funds to turn it into an academy that produces good players.”

He explained that their training schedule was disturbed by the heatwave in the past weeks and that funding could help them mitigate weather-affecting training.

“With funds, I want to establish an academy with an indoor facility so that training is not affected by weather,” he said.

Masuka added he was not expecting his teams to win the cup games because football can humble anyone who is overconfident.

“You can only prepare for matches and hope that things will go according to plan, but I wasn’t surprised when we won the cup games with the U10 and U13 teams because they train hard.

“I know that the U13 team that I coach won the league and its cup games matches, but I can’t blow my own horn, because there are a lot of people who played an essential role in the team to win, especially my technical support and the parents of the players.

“We are in the process of transferring our best players to big teams like Chiefs and SuperSport in the upcoming soccer season,” said Masuku.

He said that the U10, U11 and U12 teams will play in the Cancer Tournament at Bezuidenhout Park in Edenvale on October 8 to 9. The U10s will compete on October 8 and the U11s and U12s on October 9.
