Cycling team is well on track

The Reiger Park East Rand Cycling Team was established in 2016.

The Reiger Park East Rand Cycling Team will be celebrating Heritage Day on September 24 by competing in a mountain bike league competition.

According to the founder of the cycling club, Ingrid Ruiters, they are determined to do well in the competition.

“We are already training. Mountain biking is a challenging sport, with a lot of obstacles on the tracks. We are outdoing ourselves in our training sessions lately because we want to be more than prepared for all upcoming competitions.

“The team is developing, even though we lack resources. Team members made us proud in a previous competition, as all finished their laps. They have shown great improvement, especially on their strength and abilities.”

Ruiters added that she formed the cycling club with the purpose of giving youngsters a positive outlet.

“I want young people to grow with confidence and high self-esteem. I would like to see them learn from being part of our team.

“We would like to see more young people join. Here, they will learn valuable lessons that will help them in the future. You learn a lot by being part of a sports team,” she said.

“I’m planning to introduce cycling in primary schools and am starting soon with Drommedaris Primary School in Reiger Park.”
