Nominations for Gauteng Women in Sports Awards open

The awards were officially launched in Ekurhuleni in 2018 and have since expanded to all five regions in Gauteng.

Futballing Girls NPO announced the opening of nominations for the 2022/23 edition of the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards.

The awards were founded and pioneered by founder and chairperson, Moonira Ramathula. A recipient of an award in 2017, Ramathula conceived a platform that would celebrate and recognise the performance of women in sport at a regional level.

The awards were officially launched in Ekurhuleni in 2018 and have since expanded to all five regions in Gauteng – under the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards event.

In their fifth year, the organisation has reviewed the categories and criteria to incorporate the digital age as well as other aspects of women in sport.

This saw the introduction of a new category, the vision view media official of the year, which will be open to female sports photographers, videographers, producers and technical officials involved in media production.

The awards are centred on three main pillars which are, achievements, community development and self-empowerment. Winners from each of the five regions, namely West Rand, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Sedibeng are the finalists for the provincial showcase.

Nominations opened on August 1 and will close on August 31. The nomination form is available via a google link available on all Futballing Girls social media platforms and through the WhatsApp number 065 690 5407.

“Recognition has the power to motivate and inspire, not just the person being recognised but the entire community around the recognised person. An award lives on as a reminder of the achievement for years to come. Recognition for women in sport creates awareness and encourages other women to participate in sport and push themselves to be the best they can be.” said Ramathula.

“I would also like to thank every individual and organisation who over the past five years has participated, nominated and collaborated with our awards. Your participation has played a huge role in raising the platform and changing the women in sports narrative to positive outcomes and results. It is only through every one’s intentional efforts that we can achieve equality for women in sport.” Ramathula added.
