Easterns players join South African baseball teams

The chosen players will be donning the South African jersey and representing the country.

Players from the teams that are part of the Easterns Baseball Federation have joined South African national baseball teams that will be taking part in international baseball tournaments.

The U12 players will be competing in the Taiwan World Cup in August and the U15 will be competing in a Mexico tournament in August. The U18 will be in the USA World Cup in September and the U23 will be in Taiwan for the IV WBSC World Cup in October.

President of the Easterns Baseball Federation and coach of the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball team Gavin Bennett said it’s an honour for him to see players from the teams in the association he leads representing South Africa.

“It is not only players that will be representing South Africa, but even coaches from various teams in the Easterns Baseball Federation will also be donning South African colours and competing at international level.

“I would like to wish coaches and players from different teams in the eastern association luck. We have been in 19 International tournaments, and we have never won even a single tournament. But we are doing well at provincial level which is motivational.

“We didn’t win the last provincial tournament, but we could have won it if we didn’t lose in all our final matches that we were competing in for the first spot. All our teams came out second in the competition.

“I joined the Cardinals in 1986 and I enjoyed being part of the team from that time. Our main aim as the Easterns Federation is to produce good players that can compete at the international level.
