Boksburg FC player has big dreams

Growayne used to play rugby and cricket.

Growayne Lion (14), better known as Wayno, is a dribbling wizard from Reiger Park who believes that the world will see him in the Premier Soccer League soon.

The attacking Boksburg FC U15 middle-fielder, who is also comfortable as a left-winger, started playing football at six. Before joining Boksburg, Wayno played for Spades FC and Samba Boys FC.

The player said his father inspired him to fall in love with soccer.

“I used to play rugby and cricket, but as you know, older people have more vision and wisdom. My father, who was also a soccer player, saw the potential I have for soccer.

“My brother, Llewellyn, also showed support from my first game, making sure I arrived on time for games and at training,” said Wayno.

His greatest highlight at Boksburg FC so far was a game against Alberton FC, which they won 16-0.

“That game is probably one of the best matches I have played so far. By working hard, studying, staying focused, being positive and always giving my best in every game and at school, there is more to achieve,” said the Reiger Park Secondary learner.

Coach of the U15 team, Heinrich Loxton, said Wayno is a player with a lot of talent and one of the strongest and fastest players, with an aggressive style of play.

“Off the pitch, Wayno is the most humble person I know or have ever coached. He doesn’t talk a lot and he is a leader in his own way and very social with all the players,” said the coach.
