Boksburg Rugby Club lose to NWU

Three teams from the Boksburg Rugby Club were defeated on the day.

Three Boksburg Rugby Club teams were beaten by North West University at Prince George Park on June 18.
The U21s lost 62-6, the second team lost 31-12 and the first side lost 49-33.

The visiting first team dominated from the beginning of their match. A transgression from Boksburg’s Joe Meyer resulted in a red card and a penalty.

NWU slotted over the penalty and soon afterwards Dyllan Smit extended the points tally with a try and conversion. The home side fought back through Damian Diedericks’ try and Henry Pike’s conversion.

NWU didn’t relent and extended their lead thanks to a Johandre Vosloo try and Smit’s conversion. By halftime, they led 24-7 after Mpho Ntsane scored. The try was converted.

Henry Pike and Jason Stoltz scored to begin Boksburg’s fight back, trailing at one stage by only five points.
Ruan Oosthuizen’s try and Smits’ conversion increased the points of the visiting side to 31-19. But the Boksburg

Rugby club responded quickly with a Graig Hutchison’s try and Pike’s conversion.
Just when Boksburg was hoping to wipe out the deficit, a try and conversion by Smit increased the points again to 38-26. A penalty by Divon du Toit soon extended the lead.

The home side responded with a good interchange play that led to Pike’s try and conversion. Du Toit succeeded with a penalty but JP Storm‘s try sealed the win for NWU.

Chairperson of the club, Rinus van der Linden, said he was disappointed with the overall results.
“Our training sessions are not as effective as before because we usually train in the evenings but most of the lights have been stolen.

“I’m not entirely blaming the lights for our performance, but they are a contributing factor.
“Our teams have been training without lights for a while now, yet we pay a full price for using the facility.

“As a rugby club we are also trying to introduce rugby to schools, but now it is going to be difficult because of the problems at the facility,” said van der Linden.
