Bowlers claim medals at national championship

The South Africa national disability bowls championship were held in Durban from May 21-28.

Visually Impaired Bowlers Ekurhuleni (VIBE)’s May Homer and Beppie Summersgill won silver medals in the B3 and B1 categories at the National Disability Championship held in Durban from May 21-28.

May, from Northmead and her director Paul Homer. competed in the B3 partially sighted category. She also won a silver medal in the pairs category with her partner Herman Scholtz and his director Annatjie van Rooyen.
Summersgill, from Airfield, and her director Cedric Summersgill competed in the B1 totally blind category where they came second.

The competition returned this year after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19. Despite the recent floods threatening to disrupt the event, bowlers rose above all odds to make it a successful championship.
