Cardinals dishes out awards

The prize giving ceremony gives the players a chance to assess their perfomances.

Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club awarded its players at its junior prize-giving ceremony held on April 23.

According to the club president Gavin Bennett, the prize-giving ceremony honours athletes that did well in the past season and congratulates some of the players who were selected to represent the Gauteng Province Baseball Council (GPBC) at the national tournament.

“We believe it is important to honour our players who showed a passion for the sport and worked very hard throughout the season. We strongly believe that honouring the baseball players who are doing well will motivate other players to do well in the next season.

“Our u-8 coaches and players received participation awards and our u-10B players received various awards, along with one of their coaches.

“Taylor Gregory received the best batter award, Blake Geyer was named best fielder, Rylee Griffin won the improved player and Llewellyn Kachelhoffer walked away with the coaches’ choice award.

“For the u-10A, Madison Botha received the best batter award, Troyden Rowntree won the best fielder award, Mason Sage was named the most improved player and coach Evan Grobler won the coaches’ choice award,” said Bennett.

The u-12 players who received awards were:
• Darren Zietsman: best batter
• Daniel Moolman: best fielder
• Rylee Greyvenstein: best pitcher
• Madison McCusker: most improved player
• Cameron Sequeira: most voted player

The u-15 awards:
• Joshua Botha: best batter
• Bobby Samuelson: best fielder
• Dean du Plessis: best pitcher
• Jayden Swanepoel: most improved player
• Bobby Samuelson: most voted player

Mark du Plessis took the coach of the year award and the team of the year went to the u-10A team.

The u-12 players who joined elite teams are Cameron Sequeira, Caylum de Wet, Chad Maudlin, Daniel Moolman, Darren Zietsman, Ethan Foley, Madison Botha, Mason Sage, Rylee Greyvenstein and Travis Yaffe.

The u-15 players who joined SA elite teams are Bobby Samuelson, Dean du Plessis, Jayden Swanepoel, Joshua Botha, Kyle Galliot and Luke Emmett.

The u-23 players who were recruited by SA elite teams are Alex Levkov, Cullum Lee and Trystan Mills.
