Boksburg Rotary Club upholds Morris Cohen philanthropic nature

The Golf Day is held to keep Morris Cohen's ideal alive.

Boksburg Lake Rotary Club, in partnership with ERPM Golf Club, held the annual keepCharity Golf Day on April 21.

According to Martin Stokes, convener of the event, the Boksburg Rotary Club held the golf day to commemorate a phenomenal golf player of ERPM Golf Club, Morris Cohen, and to uphold his philanthropic nature of helping children in Boksburg.

“He used to help out children in Boksburg. This golf day is used to raise funds, so we can all continue where he left off and help children. All the funds we raised today will be used to assist the underprivileged children in Boksburg.

“We are helping out a lot of charity centres in Boksburg. Some of the money that we raised will also be donated to the charity centres that we normally help.

“However, it was hard to fill the golf day arena, we only had nine fourballs (36 golf players) playing in the competition, while we were expecting 24 (80 golf players). The low turnout is caused by Covid-19. A lot of golf players are still struggling to recover from the effects of Covid-19.

“A team made up of four phenomenal women: Lynda Joynt, Toula Arnold, Les Pohl and Ruth Rosenbrock, won the golf day. A raffle was also held and prizes donated by Hisense Air Conditioners and Rotarians were won.
“We raised R16 000 during the fun day. All those funds will be used to assist the beneficiaries, which are the children of Boksburg.

“We are also looking for new members. Anyone willing to join our Boksburg Rotary Club can email Linda Stokes at linda@aircelsius.co.za,” said Martin.
