Rugby player needs funds to travel to Ireland

“We are pleading to anyone to help our boy with the travel fare, so he can realise his dream.”

Amahle Ngobese (14), who started playing rugby in Grade Two, is pleading for help with his travel fare, of R41 990, to Ireland.

The young rugby player of Dawn Park, who enjoys playing flyhalf and fullback positions, has been invited by Travel and Sport-School Tour specialists to join other players in a rugby tour to Ireland, but his stumbling block is that he doesn’t have the required funds to do so.

His parents have tried their best to raise funds for him, but it seems futile. Lindiwe Ngobese said she tried several times to apply for loans, but she didn’t succeed.

“My son has made me love rugby, and he is very good at it. However, I feel very sad and disappointed that I can’t help him.

“We are pleading to anyone to help our boy with the travel fare, so he can realise his dream.
“He started playing rugby at the age of eight at Van Dyk Primary School and was then recruited by Valke Rugby Club after their rugby trials. He was only 12 at that time. Thereafter, in 2021, he was given a rugby scholarship to Hoërskool Alberton.

“The u-14 rugby team took part in the Grey College u-14 Rugby Tournament in Bloemfontein from March 17 to 21. He impressed the scouts and was recruited and invited to join other rugby players in a tour to Ireland.”

Amahle said he would be happy to go to Ireland and represent South Africa. “I want to go there because it offers me a better opportunity of improving my rugby skills. The trip will channel me in the right direction because my dream is to play for the Lions and our national team. Rugby is my first love and I want to play it my whole life. I want to emulate my role model, Damian Willemse,” said Amahle.

Anyone who wants to help Amahle can call Lindiwe Ngobese on 073 450 2741.
