Lerena stops Dinu in four rounds

In his professional career, Lerena has won 27 of his 28 bouts, scoring 14 knockouts.

Kevin Lerena was in devastating form to defeat Romania’s Bogdan Dinu after scoring a fourth-round stoppage to win the vacant World Boxing Association Inter-continental heavyweight title at Emperors Palace on March 26.

The first two rounds offered nothing, as both boxers were still feeling each other out. But it was Lerena who took the fight to the Romanian in the following rounds.

In the third round, the southpaw sent the 114kg Dinu to the canvas twice.

First, Dinu went against the ropes in what seemed like a low blow. Later in the round, Lerena again floored the Romanian to gain the upperhand.

The fourth round began with intensity as Lerena continued to exert pressure on his opponent. He scored a knockdown after dropping Dinu with a right to the head.

After beating the count, Lerena sent Dinu back to the floor again with a right and left combination to secure the victory.

Victories for Pretorius and Koopman

On the undercard, Joshua Pretorius won two titles after unanimously beating Juan Roux to claim the South African and vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) heavyweight titles.

The judges scored the fight 118-110, 118-112 and 116-112 in favour of Pretorius.

Shervantaign Koopman from Primrose stopped Jami Webb in the fifth round in their fight for the Internation Boxing Federation Continental African junior middleweight title. The middleweight sensation dropped Webb once and scored a knock-out in the fifth round for the title.
