United in need of a sponsor

A sponsor will help the club to promote rugby in the community.

The Reiger Park-based East Rand United Rugby Club (ERU) is still urgently in need of sponsors.

United was dealt a big blow in 2019 when it parted ways with its main sponsor, Phakisa Holdings.

ERU’s chairperson, Marius de Vos, appeals for businesses and other stakeholders to become involved.
“It will help the club if we can get a sponsor as we have a lot of expenses such as maintenance, petrol and kits. We have excellent coaches, however, they are coaching without compensation at the moment. It’s even costly just to participate in a game.
“It will also help us to promote rugby in the community.

“We occasionally get assistance from companies such as Centrum Pharmacy. They donated bandages. People like Llewellyn Wingson also made big contributions and it is much appreciated,” said the chairperson.

According to de Vos, the team will most likely return to the field next year.
“The Valke cancelled its Peregrine League this season due to Covid-19. We could only played three games before the league was suspended.
“Hopefully, we can play again next year. Our youth club will soon return to practise. The senior guys will probably start practising next year.
“The club is in tip-top condition. Our facilitator Winston Nelson and his team are taking excellent care of our facilities.”

The chairperson encouraged United’s players to get vaccinated so that they are less vulnerable to the virus.
