Oos Rand Secondary grateful for golf day support

The event is aimed at raising funds for the school.

Event organisers said Oosrand Secondary School’s fourth annual fund-raising golf day held at the ERPM Golf Course on August 29 was successful.

Lester du Preez, one of the organisers, said they raised about R45 000 and are ecstatic about the turnout.

“We reached 150% of the fund-raising goal through sponsorships, donations and sales. We’re grateful for the support and touched by everyone’s generosity.

“What stood out about the golf day is how the event has evolved. This year we live-streamed the event and had children participate. The support from all stakeholders also stood out and we’re pleased it grows with each event.

“We had 40% more golfers than the past four years.

“People came out despite the freezing weather and the pandemic. The 2021 golf day has been our most successful and we hope to count on everyone to make 2022 even more significant,” du Preez said.

The organiser thanked everybody who contributed to the success of the event.

“We want to express our gratitude to all sponsors, donors, and players,” he added.

The school principal, Peter Arendse, previously described the golf day as an important fund-raising initiative to help supplement the portion the school receives from the government.

According to the school, Oosrand Secondary is partly funded by the government and every year the gap between this funding and the actual cost to run the school widens. The balance then needs to be raised by external sources and community fund-raising such as the golf day.
