Meet your sports guy, Sabelo

Meet your Advertiser sports journalist.

I was born in Ekurhuleni on September 1, a little over three decades ago and studied journalism at Rosebank College (Benoni campus).
With a stroke of luck, I was the only student during my last year at the college to be offered an opportunity to work at The Citizen newspaper where I learned a lot more about the art of journalism.

This opportunity called for me to quickly learn how to manage my time to successfully juggle college and my new duties at the daily newspaper.
I did something right because I was able to return to The Citizen when I finished my journalism studies and stayed there for about three more months before I landed the job at the Boksburg Advertiser in 2013.

Before my journey at Rosebank College begun, I completed my matric at Lowveld High School in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga – where I grew up.
My tenure at Lowveld High was preceded by stints at Nelspruit Primary, Rynfield Primary and The King’s School.

Daveyton is where I live presently and going to the gym (which I’ve been doing for a decade now) leads my lifestyle.

As far as mentors go, the likes of A-list motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson, Robert Marawa and American sports journalist Stephen A, who has had a big influence on my career.

I love the Springboks and support Kaizer Chiefs and Manchester United.

My favourite sportsman is American basketball superstar LeBron James.

Last, but certainly not least, on my list of loves, so to speak, is food – good food.

I am blessed to be doing what I love and breathe – sports reporting.

As for my favourite sport, follow my stories and blogs and you will find your answer.

Let’s talk sport so send me your views, news and anything and everything sporty (sabelom@caxton.co.za).
