Blues salvage point in outrageous encounter

Blues denied historic comeback.

The Boksburg Football Club’s Easterns Premier League side held league rivals TTSASA to a dramatic stalemate in an eight-goal thriller at the Boksburg City Stadium on April 17.

The match ended in a 4-all draw.
Boksburg, also known as the Blues, were forced to start the match with seven players, according to interim coach Brian Fran, who was in charge in the absence of incumbent mentor Ernest Seforo. This was after the rest of the team were held up in traffic around Kempton Park before they were further delayed by a roadblock near East Rand Mall.

As expected, the visitors took full advantage by blitzing to an early two-goal lead before the Blues returned to full complement. According to Fran, his team had its work cut out by the time they were back to full strength around the 20th minute, but TTSASA were already 3-0 up.

However, Blues forward Ernest Anwulobi pulled one back for the hosts to send the encounter into the half-time break at 3-1 in favour of the visitors.

Enter Anwulobi.
The striker took it upon himself to stop the bleeding for Fran’s side. He netted two more goals in the early stages of the second stanza in a space of three minutes to earn his hat-trick and drag his side back into the game.

The Blues took a sensational lead for the first time in the encounter to go 4-3 up as man-of-the-moment Anwulobi grabbed his fourth.
TTSASA, however, had the last laugh and dampened Anwulobi’s heroics by denying the hosts the win with a late equaliser.

A dumfounded Blues trainer, Fran, said: “The game started with only seven players, it was not a good game to watch.

However, I am happy with the result considering the circumstances, but we should have won the game. We were the better team, especially in the second half with a much-improved performance from the boys.

“We were unlucky to concede a goal close to the end.”

The Blues sat at the top of the table with seven points after the encounter, which was their third of the new season.
