Inter wins Windmill Park soccer tournament

Geluksdal dominates in Windmill Park soccer tournament

Geluksdal outfit Inter Milan were crowned champions of the highly contested Geluksdal-dominated Willas United six-a-side soccer tournament in Windmill Park on November 28.

Inter defeated Geluksdal neighbours Mnandi Football Club 1-0 to take top honours which were accompanied by a R3 200 prize money and trophy.
The tournament, a product of Dave’s Foundation, a youth development organisation headed by David Johnson, who is the owner of Windmill Park outfit Willas United, was hosted in honour of Jarmaine Muller who died in April following a lengthy illness.

According to Johnson, Muller was a ‘young hardworking man’ in Windmill Park and well-known DJ who had a ‘giving heart’ and was a people’s person. Muller also sponsored United.

Part of the organising foundation’s existence is to fight social challenges including alcohol and drug abuse and helping the less privileged. Part of the festivities on the day were an outdoor soup kitchen, which fed a number of children.

Muller’s mother, Anna, was present and presided the day’s prize-giving. Johnson paid tribute to her.

“I really want to thank everyone that came out in numbers to support our initiative and special thanks to Mrs Muller who did our prize-giving and to allow us to honour the late Jarmaine, we carry his kindness and legacy forward.

“To my sponsors, HFR Logistics, that keep my soup kitchen alive, and everyone else that has contributed to the success of the event, God bless all of you. Thank you.

“I am happy and very proud of how the team organised the tournament. It was not easy, however, we managed to get all the logistics in place and we had to dig deep in our own pockets to make it a success. I want to thank my team and everyone that helped, I appreciate it form my heart. Making a difference is our motto, we can only build from here and grow Dave’s Foundation. The effort has definitely met my expectations.”

The football tournament, which seeks to unearth talent, was hosted for the second time this year with the first edition held last year.
