Owls say goodbye to Tewitz

Owls bid farewell to relocating stalwart

Makopano Boksburg Rugby Club is saying goodbye to club treasurer Charles Tewitz, who is moving to Cape Town at the end of the month as part of a business decision.

Tewitz was honoured with the highest points scorer trophy in 1988, his first stint with the club during his playing days where he represented the Owls as a fly-half for the u-20 side.

Following his playing days as an Owls player, Tewitz began his second stint at Prince George Park in 2006 as the second team coach. His third stint at the club began in 2016, where he continued in a coaching capacity, this time as the u-21 mentor until 2019.

Asked for his farewell message to everyone involved with the club, Tewitz said: “Leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead to motivate them; the club is about the community and this is your chance to give back to the community and the club.

“Bring more inclusive younger generation through the development of Boksburg. You make lifelong friends in rugby, and Boksburg rugby is family.

“I’ve enjoyed and loved every moment I spent with players, coaches and management.

“I would like to say thank you to my wife, Chantal, for standing by me and sometimes keeping me motivated through this period, and to my children for giving up their time and sometimes spend cold days at the club supporting me.”

Some of Tewitz’s standout achievements at Prince George Park include guiding the u-21s from being left red-faced by losing by more than 50 points in a game in 2017 to being semi-finalists of the Peregrine League last year.

He also guided the u-18s to the final of the league in 2017 against Springs before a close 35-33 loss.
