Thysse wins it all on forgettable night for Boksburg pugilist

Last man standing: Brandon Thysse

Brandon Thysse was crowned the top junior middleweight after emphatically stopping Boyd Allen in the third round of their 4@War finale in the year’s first Golden Gloves boxing event dubbed Back 4 Battle at Emperors Palace on October 10.

It was a finish that capped a knockout boxing night after the third and fourth place bout of the competition between Boksburg’s Tristan Truter and Roarke Knapp ended in similar fashion.

It didn’t take long for ring rust to be apparent in the early stages of the finale, with both Thysse and Allen going at each other in brawl style rather than boxing each other.

But it was Thysse who came out on top of the slugfest courtesy of a surprising massive left hook which Allen never recovered from. Shaken and vulnerable, the former mixed martial arts star regained his balance but it was far from convincing, prompting the referee to reach the 10 count and wave the contest off just inside three minutes.

The crowning of the junior middleweight came with a prestigious diamond ring for Thysse, who improved his professional record to 14-2-1 including 11 knockouts, while Allen dropped to 5-1-1; 4.

Elsewhere, Hammer Gym student Truter suffered his second TKO loss in succession in the beginning of the second round.

In a fight of two rounds, the local and lanky Truter enjoyed more of the ascendency in the first round but Roarke flipped the script in the second.

The action had barely heated up when Roarke delivered a damaging blow to Truter’s jaw which dropped him and left him at sixes and sevens.

Just like in the finale – Truter showed enough to beat the referee’s count but appeared to be in no condition to continue.

Following their fight, Roarke improved his tally to 11-1-1; 8 while Truter dropped to 8-4; 5.
