CGA to respond on new local athletics club

Tenza: This club is me giving back to the community

The founders of the new athletics club which is set to be based in Sunward Park, led by former Boksburg Athletic Club chairperson Benzi Tenza, took a step closer to making their dream of creating a new club into a reality when they met with Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) at the governing body’s headquarters in Germiston on September 19.

Following the meeting, Tenza and co-founders Maria Gumede and Hulikani Nyathi are awaiting on CGA to approve the existence of the new club which would be officially launched in January pending on the governing body’s response.

According to Tenza, the club’s name and colours will be revealed if/when CGA approves.

Speaking on the meeting with CGA, Tenza said: “The purpose of the interview was to check our readiness and our capability to start a new club. We were asked about 12 questions by different CGA panel members including CGA general manager Mandla Radebe.

“We were informed that we will be informed before the end of the month about an outcome. If approved, other CGA clubs will be informed and our club colours will be published for other clubs to object. If no objection, then we will then go ahead and launch. Approval of a club formation is subject to one year probation,” explained the multiple Comrades Marathon finisher.

Requirements for a formation of a new athletics club include an application letter stating the reasons of forming the club and a R10 000 once-off registration fee of the club.
