Two top Titans awards for Thomson

The Players Player award is huge because it shows your performances didn't only matter on the field but off it as well

Van Dyk Park Momentum Multiply Titans new captain Grant Thomson was recently named the Titans Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Season, as well as the Players Player of the Year, during the franchise’s virtual awards ceremony.

Thomson (32) became the franchise’s four-day skipper at the beginning of 2019 before captaining some one-day encounters as well. This is all before being officially named skipper for all formats of the game. The SuperSport Park leader could not have asked for a better way to begin his full leadership role, with the Players Player accolade also pointing out to his overall influence on his teammates on and off the pitch.

“You never really expect these awards. I was really happy to receive them because it’s really nice to be recognised for your efforts and contribution towards the team; it’s nice to know you’re valued as a player. The Players Player award is huge because it shows your performances didn’t only matter on the field but off it as well. For your teammates to think of you in that regard is really special,” expressed the skipper, who is also a member of the CBC Old Boys Eastern Cricket Premier League side.

Thomson’s new and fast-emerging talented teammate Dayyaan Galiem also won big on the night as he scooped the First Class Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and the coveted Titans Player of Year awards.Northerns Cricket Union president Tebogo Siko commented:

“It was a season of changes, on and off the field. We are proud of the Titans’ efforts, and it is a pity the four-day series was cut short at such a tantalising junction.”

Moreover, in September 2019 Thomson was named in the squad for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants for the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament. Later the same month he was named the captain of Easterns’ squad for the 2019/20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup.

He led the team to their inaugural title in the tournament. He also runs the Tomo Cricket Academy in Parkrand, where he grew up.
