United signs former international front-rower

The front-rower arrives as a welcome addition to the Reiger Park outfit as it continues to rebuild under the watchful eye of head coach Alvandre Maart.

East Rand United has received a big boost in its forward pack courtesy of some shrewd business with the signing of former French club Rugby Club Orleans hooker Stanley Modjadji (26).

Contractual agreements between the player and the club remain undisclosed, but the Advertiser can confirm that Modjadji will be in a United jumper come the resumption of contact sport.

Talking to the Advertiser via a telephonic interview about the move, the line-out thrower said: “I’m excited about it, I’m used to varsity set-ups, so it’s refreshing to be part of a club environment. Fans can expect hard running, hard defence, hard scrumming and hard everything,”he declared.

Apart from plying his trade in Europe, Modjadji, who can also slot in at prop, has played his rugby for the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Tshwane University of Technology.

In him, United boasts a player who is starred in the Limpopo Academy Week, a player who is starred in both the varsity shield and varsity cup and a winner of the inter-varsity league when his UCT side defeated Stellenbosch University.

Touching on the topic of maintaining his fitness under the lockdown conditions, he added: “I mostly do running and speed work. Because of the lockdown, gyms are closed as we all know, so it’s difficult on that front. But this has been a great period for rehabbing those aches and pains.”
