Big match preview: Boksburg versus CBC Old Boys

The winner will probably be afforded a chance to make it to the play-offs.

Eastern Premier League cross-street rivals Boksburg Cricket Club and CBC Old Boys will lock horns in round three of play of the Top 6 on March 1.

Both sides were in away action this past weekend, with Old Boys making the short trip to Benoni Northerns and Boksburg touring to Alberton.

The results of both encounters will be released soon on the Advertiser’s website and later on in the paper, with this report being done before the two matches.

The local derby, which was scheduled to take place at Boksburg’s home ground Prince George Park, has been moved to CBC after Boksburg suggested that the last two derbies have been played at their home and it’s only fair that CBC host this time.

Commenting on the clash, Boksburg captain Adam Forbes said: “When it comes to playing CBC, there is always that little bit more to play for. CBC is a great side and have outplayed us in the last two derbies.

“Going into this one, while being in the Top 6, we are coming out guns blazing, and we won’t be a walkover as was the case in recent years.”

Forbes’ opposite, Casey Arnold, responded: “We’ve always done well against Boksburg. We beat them last year and we beat them in the first game this year, so we play well against them.

“But it’s always tough; they really know how to get up for the big games, but I always think CBC is still the better of the two teams. So I’m hoping even with their win (referring to Boksburg’s famous win at Benoni Northerns a fortnight ago), our boys will rock up to the Boksburg game. It will be a good game of cricket.”

There will be two rounds of play remaining following the derby with Boksburg’s remaining fixtures, including Bedfordview at home and a daunting away game to Kempton Park to conclude their Top 6 campaign.

Meanwhile, Old Boys will travel to Alberton before hosting Bedfordview in their ultimate Top 6 fixture.
