Local jukskei player is looking for support

Shabangu began playing the sport back in 2012 after it caught his attention during an invitation to an indigenous games meeting in Pretoria.

Eastern Gauteng jukskei player Mandla ‘Fresh’ Shabangu has been selected to represent the province at the jukskei nationals set to take place in Kroonstad between March 23 and 27.

Shabangu leaves for the tournament on March 20.

The national competition is a self-funding event with costs including travelling, food and accommodation and according to Shabangu’s estimation, everything will cost approximately R3 500.

Shabangu is pleading to the Boksburg public, where he plays out of at the Boksburg Jukskei Club, to assist in raising the money which will enable him to make his second appearance at national level.

When the Advertiser asked him why the public should spend its hard-earned money to help him, Shabangu commented: “I want to promote the sport, especially in townships. I want to do something but for now, I want to show people that I know the game and I won’t disappoint.”

For more information, Shabangu can be contacted on 074 216 8706. You can also contact the president of Gauteng Jukskei, Danie Stoltz, regarding the tournament on 082 255 9906.
