BCC ready for opponents in local derby

Boksburg’s Michael Heger stole the show to set the tone for what ultimately became a comfortable two-wicket bonus point win for the travellers.

The Boksburg Cricket Club’s Premier League XI could not have asked for better preparation ahead of their big clash against CBC Old Boys this Sunday at Boksburg’s home base of Prince George Park.

The PG Park outfit travelled to Pollak Park to take on Springs Old Boys with their perfect start to the campaign on the line.

Sent to bat first, Springs were frustrated by the visitors’ tight bowling and fielding – a defensive performance which would force Springs to try and defend a total of 101 all-out after 30 overs.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the home side, especially considering the visitors’ form and batting line-up – particularly the top order.

However, it wasn’t a top order effort but rather a collective one from Boksburg, albeit most of the work had been done on the bowling front.

Heger took out half of the hosts’ batting attack, finishing with an amazing 5/34 in 7.3 overs, including two maidens. His teammate and new recruit David Zweni also produced a blinder with the leather as he took 3/23 in five of his allotted bowling overs of 10.

Jordan Hollard finished with 2/12; 2 – also in five overs.

Perhaps undermining the target put in front of them, the PG Park outfit, which was once again led by Adam Forbes, hobbled to the finish line but were always in control of their destiny.

Zweni finished what he had started during his team’s bowling innings as he finished unbeaten on 26, his side’s highest individual score with the willow as Boksburg marched on to their biggest home game at this stage of the season.
