Boksburg maintains perfect start to cricket league season

It was Boksburg’s new recruits that did the damage on the home side, laying the foundation for Forbes and the batting co. to secure the easy win.

The Boksburg Cricket Club’s premier XI registered its second win of the new Eastern Premier League campaign in as many weeks as they made easy work of a hapless Avion outfit at Hoërskool Jeugland in Kempton Park on October 20.

After going behind the crease first, the home side had the visiting Prince George outfit licking its lips with Boksburg required to beat 80 runs Avion set in 25 overs.

Boksburg, led by inform skipper Adam Forbes, duly obliged and needed just 12 overs to end the contest with a bonus point and eight wickets to spare.

Forbes finished with an unbeaten 45 while his partner, Johan Davel, ended on an undefeated 12. The casualties from a batting front for the visitors were Akhter Rasul and Chris Opperman.

The pair of David Zweni and Adrian de Vries took six wickets between them as they registered impressive readings of 3/17 in eight overs and 3/23 in five overs including one maiden, respectively.

Donovan du Randt took 2/21; 1 in six overs as Boksburg ate into Avion’s batting attack.

Elsewhere, Bjorn Schaffner finished as Avion’s top run-getter with 21. Boksburg’s Kane Horwell took three catches while Davel ended with two.
