Northerns up-and-running with Boksburg win

On the Boksburg bowling front, Ian Crawshaw finished as his side’s top wicket taker with 2/28; 3.

Benoni Northerns stormed to a six-wicket victory over the Boksburg Cricket Club in an Eastern Cricket T20 pre-season encounter at Willowmoore Park on October 6.

Boksburg duo Donavan du Randt (unbeaten 22) and Adriaan de Vries (undefeated 23) were behind the crease when the Prince George outfit finished off their batting innings on 120/6 following their allotted overs.

It was a total that was never going to trouble Northerns, not on familiar territory anyway and it proved to be the case.

Led out by Kurt Francis, the home side needed just 14 overs to overhaul the visitors’ total as they put proceedings to bed after generating 124/4 for a comfortable win.

Northerns’ Aran Visser finished as the match’s top batsman with his unbeaten 49, with Francis adding an impressive 37.

WP Myburgh’s performance with the leather was exemplary, taking 4/23 in only four overs of delivering. His teammates, Kundai Matigimu and Lance Humphrey, took one wicket each.

The encounter could’ve easily had a different narrative had the visitors had a decent start, but three duck dismissals in the top order was always going to prove difficult to recover from, especially against an opponent the calibre of Benoni Northerns. – @SabeloBoksburg
