Boksburg swimming sensation wins in Tunisia

The Mzansi team won 21 more medals than the 2015 competition in Egypt, where they still topped the medal table with a total of 57 medals.

Boksburg swimming sensation Kian Keylock won the overall best performance accolade during the 13th edition of the CANA Junior Africa Swimming Championships, recently held in Tunis, Tunisia.

This was after Keylock, competing in the Group One Men’s 13-14 category, raked in a total of 10 medals, including six gold and four silver, while breaking two meeting records in the process.

He smashed the then 50m breaststroke mark of 31:42 and brought it down to an impressive 30:55 and obliterated the 200m breaststroke time of 2:30:78 to a new 2:22:98.

His other gold medals arrived after the 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and individual medley, as well as in the 4x100m mixed individual medley relay.

The CBC Boksburg hero won his silver straps in the 200m backstroke, 4x100m mixed freestyle relay, 4x100m individual medley relay and the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Furthermore, the South African swimming team claimed the top spot on the medal table with a total of 78 medals (46 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze).

Top three countries:

  • South Africa: 78 medals (46 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze)
  • Egypt: 74 medals (20 gold, 32 silver and 22 bronze)
  • Tunisia: 24 medals (2 gold, 5 silver and 17 bronze)
