Centurion run over scoreless United

The result was a culmination of a dark day for the Valke giants whose second and third sides lost by an identical scoreline in the day’s early games.

Centurion denied East Rand United a last hurrah in what was United’s last game of their Volcano Super Cup campaign in a 40-0 drubbing at the capital on August 17.

United, who are finalists of their domestic league for the past two years, the Valke Peregrine League, are gunning to make it third time lucky in the final having lost on both occasions in 2017 and ’18 against Vereeniging and rivals the Springs Rugby Club respectively.

The Reiger Park outfit have already began their quest to reach the pinnacle of the Peregrine League after defeating the Brakpan Rugby Club at Bosman Stadium on August 10.

Asked for his final take on the team’s Volcano Super Cup campaign, United skipper Jonathan Botha commented: “Well, in terms of the Volcano Super Cup, I believe that we started off too slow and we could have ended much better, but I believe we learned a lot.

“Looking at the Peregrine, we need to be more accurate when it comes to finishing off games especially the semi and finals. The last two finals we played in we were comfortable ahead but did not finish it off quite as well as we wanted to.

“Discipline and self-belief on the day will be key.” – @SabeloBoksburg
