East Rand United clubhouse undergoing a revamp

United currently play their home games at Laerskool Elspark.

The revamping of the club house at East Rand United’s home ground at the Reiger Park Sports Ground, otherwise known as The Graveyard, has officially gotten underway from May 27.

The building was vandalised late last year when residents of Joe Slovo informal settlement highlighted their frustrations about poor service delivery in the area and allegedly went on the rampage before setting the clubhouse alight.

The sports facility also accommodates cricket teams hailing from Reiger Park, and is home to the recently established hockey club.

The face lift project is scheduled to take between eight and 12 weeks.

Confirming the news to the Advertiser, East Rand United chairperson Marius de Vos said: “We hope we can all benefit from the new clubhouse. The club has had to spend a lot of money to move our home games to other venues.

“I thank Crawford Charles for his tireless efforts behind the scenes to have the insurance claim finalised. I’d also like to thank the club’s executive team, particularly deputy chairperson Vivian Lottering, who’s done a lot of work to ensure that this is a success.”

The total cost of the project is said to have amounted to the region of R700 000.
