Watch: Boksburg cruise past Correctional Services

The Owls return home next and will host Klerksdorp.

TW Boksburg Rugby Club scored 10 tries to brush aside a Correctional Services outfit from Pretoria in their Volcano Trophy tie at Prince George Park on May 4.

Francois Erasmus’ men emerged as comfortable 60-31 victors, with open side flank Jason Stoltz being the only starting forward on the try-scoring list.

Following a rather lethargic start in the first stanza, a habit that has largely plagued the PG Park XV this season, they came back as a much-improved unit in the second half before closing the curtain on the opposition midway through the half.

The Owls scored tries from the beginning of the match to the very end – a run that saw every player in the backline having a bite at the try line, except for team leader Johan Labuschagne as scrum half.

Quizzed on his side’s performance, Erasmus said: “We’ve been putting quite a lot of work in our ball-handling drills, so it’s a bit of a concern that we made a number of handling errors, but we’re trying to work more on that.

“We are quite happy with the win. We’re playing against the students on May 11 and it’s going to be a very tough game.

“We played them at PG Park and beat them, but they are a completely different side when you play them on their home ground.

“We are looking for that one away win for us to cancel out the home loss against Vereeniging, but all in all we are quite happy with where we are at this stage, except for the Vereeniging loss at home.”

Left winger Attie van der Nest and Brandon Swart scored braces, while brother Adriaan, Damian Didericks, Martin van Wyk, Henry Pike and replacement forward Kallie Grung joined in.

Five of the five-pointers were converted, with Pike slotting three and Swart kicking over two.
