Rovers school United on the game of rugby

All of United’s points were scored from three penalties off the boot of prolific kicker and inside centre Cameron Rooi.

College Rovers welcomed East Rand United to one of the country’s premier club rugby competitions, the South African Rugby Union (SARU) Gold Cup, with a 36-9 drubbing at Kings Park Stadium in Durban..

According to United coach, Colin Lloyd, his team were dealt a big blow inside the first 10 minutes when prop forward Saki Klaas received a yellow card before receiving his second yellow in the early stages of the second-half – forcing United, already under the cosh, to play the rest of the game with 14 men.

Half-time score was 24-6 to Rovers.

Lloyd said: “There are a few things we need to tweak. Our scrums were okay but our line-outs were good. It wasn’t easy to go to that side. They are a good side, especially at their own ground.

“Either than that, our guys played well, especially in the second half.”

The home side scored six tries and converted three of the tries.

United are in pool B along with Rovers (KZN), Sasol Digi Mag Secunda (Mpumalanga) and Multisure Gardens (Eastern Cape).
