Boksburg back to winning ways in premier league

Boksburg have proven that when clicking on all cylinders they’re as good as anyone.

CMH Boksburg Cricket Club returned to winning ways in style with a hard-fought victory in Alberton on January 27.

The Prince George XI, fresh from disappointing losses against Kempton Park and CBC Old Boys, hung on to defend their 148-run total to claim a nail-biting seven-run win.

After losing his 11th pre-match coin-toss in as many attempts, Boksburg’s skipper Adam Forbes and his team’s shaky batting were once again put to the test.

Led by Forbes, this time they managed to do enough – just.

Forbes scored 44 of his team’s total with Mike Heger (27 runs) and Breidyn Schaper (24 runs) next in line on the scoring charts.

Inconsistency has been the dominant setback to the local side’s ambitions this season and the probable reason why they are not in the top four.

When Forbes was quizzed on the inconsistent results, he said: “At the moment we are a bowling team, our batting is letting us down and as soon as we get both the disciplines going well, we’ll be an even tougher opposition.

“It was a great win for us on the weekend: super proud of the team and the way we never gave up.”

True to the skipper’s words, and if the score details are anything to go by, the total and thus the margin of victory would’ve been much more impressive had it not been for the duck dismissals of wicket-keeper Kane Horwell, Sihle Dlamini and Chris Opperman.

A part of this was because of the home side’s bowling of course with Jaques Koster (3/22), Jaques Venter (2/13) and AD Gagiano (2/29) taking a combined haul of seven of Boksburg’s wickets inside 18 overs.

The home side’s Juandré Potgieter (47) was the day’s top scorer, but it wasn’t enough to complete the rally back as Forbes also starred with the bowling.

The captain produced a rarity – taking out half of the home side’s batting order in 7.2 overs, finishing with 5/27.

The Hollard brothers continued with their fine form with the leather with Matthew ending with 2/36; 2 and Jordan finishing with 2/23; 4.

Boksburg were dismissed after 38.4 overs while Alberton peaked at 37.2 overs.
