East Rand United return for pre-season training
The side is set to have their first test of the year in a form of three warm-up games according to new mentor, Lloyd, in the upcoming weeks. Exact dates are yet to be confirmed.
Valke Peregrine League finalists East Rand United have returned back to their ‘Graveyard’ home base for what is scheduled to be a long, gruelling season.
In addition to their usual participation in the Peregrine League, the Reiger Park outfit will make an appearance in the SARU Gold Cup, one of the most prestigious club competitions in the country; and the newly-formed Volcano Super Cup.
United, one of the powerhouses in their domestic league, will have their resolve, which they are known for; their talent, which they possess; and their depth tested when they go up against teams as good as them in the Volcano and in the Gold Cup.
Looking at the Super Cup for example, they’re paired with some well-known heavyweights the likes of Tukkies and Naka Bulls. Springs Rugby Club, who painfully beat them at the dead in last year’s Peregrine League final, is also in the mix.
The Gold Cup will kick off in March – leading to the Volcano Super Cup, which is scheduled to begin in May. The latter competition is expected to run concurrently with the Peregrine League, which is expected to get underway in April.
The club has welcomed the challenge East Rand United style and has risen to the occasion in a preparation sense.
It’s called on the services of former SARU vice president Rautie Rautenbach to help with some behind-the-scenes runnings; former Super Rugby utility back and European coach Colin Lloyd as the new head coach, backed by an experienced management team – as well as an unnamed pair of players from the Blue Bulls and Western Province respectively.
