CBC Old Boys completed a six-wicket win over Springs Old Boys in their Eastern Cricket Premier League tie in Boksburg on November 25.
With showers passing Boksburg on the day, the play was briefly interrupted, a knock-on effect which meant the game had to be revised to 46 overs.
First behind the crease was the visitors who, led by top order batsman Neill Joubert with a score of 33, went on to total a jittery 158.
The home side were as ruthless in their bowling as they would be with the bat.
Seasoned CBC player Tyrone Cameron ended with 3/39 while captain Casey Arnold and Sherwin Pillay both 2/24 made significant contributions.
In their batting innings, inform big hitter Mark Pearce pierced the visitors’ defensive field before being stopped at half a ton.
The batting show was not over; opener Sherwin Pillay’s early exit and the cheap dismissals of Nardo le Roux and Alec van der Kruit, were washed away as unbeaten another half-ton, this time by Ryno van der Merwe (53), saw the home side home overhauling Springs’ target in 31 overs to end on 159/4.
Springs’ Rickus Neethling also stood out with the leather, taking 2/37 in his allotted 10 overs of bowling but his efforts, along with Joubert and Johan Maritz’, would only serve as consolation against the better Old Boys on the day.
