Mchunu to again clash with Tommy on December 8

Whether the champion will repeat the victory, or the challenger will avenge the defeat, remains to be seen.

Golden Gloves Promotions could not have found a more fitting title for what should arguably be its biggest show this year at Emperors Palace on December 8.

The show, dubbed ‘Repeat or Revenge’, will be headlined by a rematch between the country’s best cruiserweights, Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu, and ABU cruiserweight champion, Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen.

The supporting headliner will feature another title fight with decorated South African IBO welterweight champion, Thulani Mbenge, defending his gold against Mexico international, Miguel Vasquez.

In the main headliner, Oosthuizen and Mchunu will renew their rivalry in a bout which will be about more than just the title itself.

Oosthuizen upset the odds when he defeated the then champion Mchunu for the ABU cruiserweight belt on September 1 at Emperors Palace.

This victory was widely met with scrutiny, with a fair share of boxing aficionados holding the opinion the judges had laid an egg in their decision which resulted in Oosthuizen becoming champion.

They had scored it 115-113 twice and 114-114 in favour of Oosthuizen, a decision which not only made his return felt but also improved his impressive record to 28-1-2; 16 KOs – while Mchunu dropped to 19-5; 12 KOs.

The lanky southpaw will be going out to prove that his win was not a fluke and that he is indeed arguably the best cruiserweight boxer in the country. His much shorter but as able adversary will be going out to confirm the notion that he was hard-done-by in the reverse fight.
