Local champion Harran surrenders title

Not all is lost for Harran though. He recently confirmed to the Advertiser that he’s signed to race a Super Stock 600 bike in the United Kingdom as from February next year in search for pastures new.

Michelin Super Motard champion Brent Harran was forced to surrender his title by rival Greg Gildenhuys following the former’s failure to overturn his overall points deficit to Gildenhuys in the tournament’s last leg in Vereeniging on November 3.

The Sunward Park rider, who won the championship last year, has been playing the chasing game to new champion Gildenhuys after falling behind by a big margin on points midway through the tournament.

Harran had a slim chance to defend his title on the death, but it wasn’t to be as the gulf in points between him and his rival proved too wide.

The disappointed 2017 champion said: “I’m obviously regretting a few silly mistakes that I made throughout the season. Besides the politics that happened half-way if I hadn’t made mistakes I did when I was in really good positions, I would still have been fine even with what happened.

“But yes, I had a really good pace but just didn’t convert that into consistent enough results, unfortunately.

“I won the same amount of races as the eventual championship leader, but he beat me in the championship by about 35 points so that just shows.

“When I didn’t win, too often I crashed or ran off while leading or lying in the top three in races.”

“I am stoked to be heading over to the UK next year: back to my routes and back onto a superbike to race in the British Superbike Series which is probably the most competitive national series in the world.

“So if I manage to do well over there, I could definitely make a career out of my racing.” – @SabeloBoksburg
