Convincing 30-run win for Boksburg over United Cricket Club

Birnie stopped the visitors in their tracks, taking a brilliant 6/45 in 8.4 overs from his allotted 10.

CMH Boksburg registered their first home win of the season in style with a convincing 30-run win over United Cricket Club at Prince George Park on October 21.

The home side, who were sent to bat first, amassed 182 runs in 38.3 overs with Chris Opperman finishing as the top run-getter with 47 during the Eastern Premier League clash.

Specialist bowler Michael Heger was next in the most runs category for CMH Boksburg with 26, in what was otherwise a slow start behind the crease for the hosts.

However, with everyone chipping in with the willow, it was enough to keep the travellers at bay as the hosts claimed their second win in as many outings in the new season.

United’s Calvin de Vries and CMH Boksburg’s Calvin Birnie were unstoppable with the leather, taking 10 wickets between them.

De Vries played a telling role in slowing down the home side, who were well on their way to the 200-run mark.

United ended on 152 all-out in 37.4 overs.

Anton Muller stood out in his team’s batting innings, registering 44 runs, which was the second highest number behind Opperman.

United wicket-keeper Juandre Johnson hit 33 in what would be the beginning of a twilight period for the visitors.

His exit sparked an implosion in the United batting ranks, handing the hosts the win.

CMH Boksburg’s Jordan Hollard took a hat-trick of wickets including one maiden, while United pair of Brandon Grutter and Simphiwe Mbatha took a brace of wickets each.
