Rhythmic gymnast excels at provincials

She is competing in the nationals which is being held at the University of the Witwatersrand this weekend.

Rhythmic gymnast Yaounde ‘Yaya’ Mabaso recently added another gold medal to her collection in 2018 which has been a gem of a year for her.

Mabaso (12) was named as the overall winner at the recent Gauteng provincials held in Centurion after making it to the final six.

The gold medal was an addition to top three finishes at a Brits competition, Wierda competition, Ocean Gymnastics, Gold Reef Club competition and a Central Gauteng competition.

Yaya began rhythmic gymnastics at the age of nine and has since ascended to excellence. She sharpens her trade at the Gold Reef Club in Blairgowrie, Johannesburg.

She’s now looking to end the year on an even higher note with the nationals firmly in sight.

Yaya is a resident of Sunward Park.
