Boksburg Bowling Club walk away with numerous accolades

The club turns 104 on October 24.

The Boksburg Bowling Club was the biggest winner during the recently held Ekurhuleni Bowls District annual general meeting held at the Alberton Bowling Club.

The local club all but scooped every award before being named the 2017/18 Club of the Year for the first time in its history.

Club member Cherry-Ann Mills was awarded the ladies Victrix Ludorum award.

Club president, Joe Jacobs, said: “We’ve made a complete turn around in the last few years and we’ve achieved the ultimate reward for our hard work at the club.

A jubilant Boksburg Bowling Club president, Joe Jacobs.

“I do want to invite people who no longer play taxing sports like rugby, soccer and cricket to play bowls instead of doing nothing.”

The club was also involved in the national tournament earlier this year where the ladies fours team made it to the final before finishing as runners-up.

This is another achievement which left Jacobs a very proud president, considering that all bowling clubs around the country were involved.

Other awards the club won at the AGM: Ladies novices, ladies pairs, ladies midweek league, ladies singles mixed pairs and men’s senior singles.

Winners were as follows:

  • Ladies novices – Drienie Jorgensen
  • Ladies pairs – Cherry-Ann Mills and Tracey Graham
  • Ladies singles – Cherry-Ann Mills
  • Mixed pairs – John Mellitchy and Cherry-Ann Mills
  • Men’s senior singles – Sandy Duigan

The bowls season runs from the beginning of October until the end of September.
