Boksburg to host Vereeniging in Peregrine semi-final

Winners of both semi-finals will lock horns for the 2018 Valke Peregrine League champions label at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park on August 18.

East Rand United comfortably cemented the runners-up position on the 2018 Valke Peregrine log following a comfortable 36-10 bonus point win over North-West University in Vanderbijlpark on July 28.

Forwards Tarquin van der Westhuizen, Bakkies Bakumeni and backs Tiaan Ramat, who seamlessly slotted in the left wing position from scrum half, and Jacques Dumas scored the tries for the inform travellers.

Ramat, whose incumbent jersey was occupied by Kevin Plaatjies on this occasion, showed his versatility with three tries in total.

The goalkicking, however, did not match the fluidity of the try-scoring, with United match day captain and backline general Clayton Gindan converting three of his side’s six tries.

The victory for Stephan Nel’s men, which arrived at the back of another comfortable triumph at home against Brakpan on July 25, set-up a third clash against Vereeniging for the second semi-final match-up at The Graveyard on August 4.

The other semi-final will see table-topping Springs play TW Boksburg.

Following 12 rounds of the round-robin phase, the top four, including Springs, United, Vereeniging and Boksburg, finished with 55, 53, 44 and 25 points respectively.

With Nel leaving behind a few of his stars for the ultimate round-robin clash, below is the projected starting XV for the semi-final, which will be a repeat of last season’s final which Vereeniging won.

United’s projected semi-final starting XV: 1 Sakkie Klaas, 2 Shaun de Wet, 3 Hanriel Coetzee, 4 Bakkies Bakumeni, 5 Jacques van Tonder, 6 Jonathan Botha (c), 7 Piet Mnguni, 8 Calvin Jantjies; 9 Tiaan Ramat, 10 Clayton Gindan, 11 Leon Potgieter, 12 Cameron Rooi, 13 Waylon Thompson, 14 Jackie Jonkers, 15 Dominique Perries.

Scorers against NWU: Tries – Tiaan Ramat (3), Jacques Dumas, Bakkies Bakumeni, Tarquin van der Westhuizen.

Conversions – Clayton Gindan (3) – @SabeloBoksburg
