Blues enjoy a super weekend as seniors, juniors celebrate win

The Blues emerged as 2-0 victors for just their second win this campaign to keep their slim hopes to avoid relegation alive.

The Boksburg Football Club claimed a rare win over Germiston in their Eastern Super League clash at the Boksburg City Stadium on June 30.

The two teams could not be separated in the first stanza as they went into the half-time break deadlocked at 0-0.

Needing a win at all costs, the home side introduced striker Wesley Vollmer in the second half in a move that ultimately proved decisive.

The forward, who’s enjoyed a rich vein of form in recent times, re-payed his team’s managing staff in fine fashion as he netted a brace which handed the hosts a crucial three points.

In the day’s early game, Germiston reserves had beaten Boksburg’s reserves by the same margin.

Elsewhere, the Boksburg u-17s travelled to Robertsham the following day to emulate their seniors’ outing.

And emulate it they did, and more.

Despite missing a bevy of players whom most are away for the winter holidays, the locals thumped Robertsham 5-2 in their own backyard thanks to a Rudean Peters hat-trick and chip-ins by Ngonidzashe Mugara and Thabang Dolo.

Mugara opened the scoring for Ernest Seforo’s men inside the 15 minutes before Peters got his first just three minutes later.

The hosts kept themselves alive by pulling one back just before the break.

But the second half began like the first, with Boksburg coming out of the blocks flying. Peters completed his brace by netting to make it 3-1 before Dolo made it four to knock the wind out of Robertsham.

With three quarters of the game having elapsed, the hosts scored their second in the 68th minute to make it 4-2 but another Peters goal on 85 minutes put the result beyond doubt.

The hosts were awarded a great chance to make the final scoreline look more respectable when they were handed a penalty in the dying minutes, but Blues goal minder Mpumelelo Hewu denied them with a firm save.

The Prince George Park outfit travelled with a total of 12 players, split 10 in-field players and two goalkeepers. In one of the major but enforced changes made by Seforo, goal scorer Dolo, whose incumbent position is goalkeeper, was employed at right back. – @SabeloBoksburg
